Earlier this year, I did a weaving workshop with Maryanne Moodie, and I can safely say that I now have weaver fever. I am addicted to weaving.
I’ve loved working with wool and yarn for a long time, with needle felting being my first craft love, soon followed by crochet. As soon as I picked up the loom, I knew that this was going to be a new crafty love affair.
Weaving allows you to get fully experimental with different textures, colours, shapes, materials, you name it. It requires just enough concentration that it keeps your mind occupied, but not enough to put a serious stain on your brain. It’s relaxing, creative, and the possibilities are endless – everything you could possibly ask for in a craft!
Because there’s no pattern to follow, there’s also a lot of scope for each weaver to really bring their own personality and flare to their work, and I’m loving getting to know everyone’s weaving style. Some of my particular favourite weavers whose work I’ve come across recently are B for Brian, JujuJust, and of course Maryanne Moodie (who I will be talking more about in ‘Creative Crushes’ soon).
I can’t wait to keep working at my weaving, improving, experimenting and creating weavings galore! Have you ever tried weaving? Are you too a victim of ‘weaver fever’?
