It is extremely cold in Melbourne right now. In fact it’s, it’s practically arctic, so in order to warm up, I had to grab a bunch of warm wool, and weave myself a hot water bottle cover!
Don’t worry, I’m just kidding. This is purely decorative. As you can see, it looks a little more pretty than functional, and I imagine some of the wholes in the weave might make things a little too toasty. I actually made this for the Hot Water Bottle Cover Challenge (or ‘Hottie’ Challenge) exhibition that’s coming up at OpenDrawer, which is a lovely, lovely craft shop in Hartwell.
The Hottie Challenge challenges crafters and artists to basically go nuts and make the wildest, most creative hot water bottle cover they can. The hottie covers are then exhibited at OpenDrawer, with 100% of the profits from all the covers sold going directly to the Margaret Pratt Foundation, to raise money for organ transplantation research.
I had a lot of fun making my hottie cover. The back is a big crocheted granny rectangle and of course, I couldn’t resist adding some pompoms!
Entries for the Hottie Cover Challenge close on Monday July 27. If you’d like to submit an entry, the details are here!
Is it cold where you are at the moment? Do you like to snuggle up with a hot water bottle to keep warm?
