Can one have a creative crush on an entire market? Because I definitely do. I have an enormous creative crush on Finders Keepers, and everyone involved.
For those not familiar, Finders Keepers is a big, wonderful art/design/craft market that happens a couple of times a year in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. I try and save my pennies and head along every time it’s on in order the bask in the creative wonder of the makers and their makings, and this time was no exception. It’s a great opportunity to support makers and get one’s own creative juices flowing. The Melbourne market also has the added bonus of being held in the stunning Royal Exhibition Building.
Below is just a very small sample my personal highlights. Thanks to the lovely stall holders who let me take pictures of their pretty, pretty things!
MIMAW make these super weird, super whimsical 3D printed vessels, and ice-cream shaped trinket dishes. I love the watercolour affect these guys have going on, and let’s face it, who doesn’t need a rosy-cheeked little buddy to hold their bits and bobs?
Gail CC Ceramics was one of the first stalls we looked at and I was immediately in love. Cats holding flowers in their heads! Rabbit ring-holders! While I definitely wanted all the things, the dog dishes were a particular favourite of mine, because I am a crazy dog lady.
How incredible are these ceramic bell people from Yen Yen Lo? They all have such different personalities! On her website, Yen says she has a penchant for making ‘small works of non-funcationl, decorative art’, which I love, because I too have a penchant for the non-functional but decorative.
These are Pete Cromer‘s adorable druids (clearly the theme of Finders Keepers for me was weird, whimsical creatures). I desperately want to adopt a family of them. Pete shared a stall with fellow creative Laura Blythman (with whom he also collaborates for Enemies Yay), and they were both super cool.
This is the little haul I ended up with (I had to exercise much self restraint). The horse print is from Pete Cromer, concrete planter from Coral and Herb, fox stickers from Atomic Ant Design and air plant from Plant by Packwood. (I’ll have to find some sort of creative housing solution for the air plant, so stay tuned for air plant updates, if cute plants are your thing 😉 )
Did you visit Finders Keepers? What are were highlights? Hopefully I’ll see you at the next one!
