Sometimes you just need to escape into wistful scenes of forests, books and animals made of umbrellas, and in that situation, you should look no further than the beautiful work of Melbourne based illustrator Marianna Marx.
Marianna’s gorgeous works are often inspired by nature, and all things wonderful and whimsical. To quote from her website, ‘the characters within her artworks are often shown in isolation, detached from any sense of reality and seeming to exist in a world of their own. Her drawings hint at a narrative, however the story behind each picture is ultimately up to the unique imagination of the viewer.’
That sounds a-ok to me! I find Marianna’s illustrations incredibly calming, and I rather fancy being a character in one of her works, surrounded by plants and host of animal friends.
There’s a real sense of escapism and magic in Marianna’s works, as though you’re just witnessing a tiny snapshot in a weird and wonderful narrative. I also adore the soft colours she uses, perfectly balanced with a few brighter tones.
What do you think? Would you like to inhabit one of these beautiful scenes? Do you now feel the need to get an ‘escape cape’ too? (I definitely do). You can read more about Marianna Marx on her website (here), or purchase one of these beauties for yourself from her shop (here).
