Howdy y’all! Just a quick update to show you my submission for April/May’s ‘The Weaving Kind’ Challenge. Hosted on Instagram, The Weaving Kind is a monthly make-along for weavers. There’s a new theme every month designed to challenge weavers to get creative and try something they perhaps wouldn’t ordinarily try. The theme for April and May was ‘diptych’ (this challenge went over two months, because it required two weavings), and this is the weird and wacky thing I created.
The idea of doing something with eyes had been kicking around in my head for a while, so this was the perfect excuse to try it out. This is the first ‘pictorial’ weaving I’ve ever done, so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, because I was a little concerned it was going to look completely wonky and well…not like eyes at all.
I normally create pieces in isolation, so this was also a great chance to create two pieces that relate to one another. I like that they could work as stand alone pieces, but as soon as you put them side by side, they create something really playful. What fab challenge!
Have you undertaken any creative challenges lately? Do tell! 😉
