Lizzy Stewart is a British illustrator who does beautiful illustrations and makes lovely, lovely zines. It was a good couple of years ago that I first discovered Lizzy’s work, and I’ve been creatively crushing on her ever since.
She draws quite a range of things, from people, to plants, to places. Some of her works are bright and polished, while others are more pared back and sketchy, which simple colour palettes and lines. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s such a sweetness to her work. I just want to live in her illustrated world.
One of my favourite pieces of Lizzy’s work is a blog/zine project she did called ‘Solo’, in which she drew images of her life in London, accompanied by captions – some poignant and pensive, others a little silly or quirky. I just adore these. Is there an artist whose work just makes you feel connected and understood? Someone whose work makes you go, ‘they get me!’. This is the feeling I have when browsing Lizzy’s ‘Solo’ blog, or flipping through her zines. It gives me warm art fuzzies (which is a thing, right?).
I sincerely hope Lizzy keeps working away, so I can keep looking at her illustrations, collecting her zines and feeling thoroughly heartened by her work. Is there an artist or creative that you feel ‘gets you’? I’d love to hear about them 🙂
